OAKVILLE, ON - Rubicon Publishing has received two highly positive reviews from writer, blogger, and educator Margo Dill. They have been posted on her blog, Margo Dill’s Read These Books and Use Them!
Dill, whose articles have appeared in several children’s and writer’s magazines, hosted two separate contests in which a total of six Rubicon books were given away to her blog’s followers. Winners of the first contest received Banana Ninja of Rubicon’s Graphic Novels series, and It’s About Science! and No Bullies Allowed from the BOLDPRINT Talk series. The contest was held on July 15th, 2010. The second contest, which took place on August 4, consisted of Rubicon trade books The Glimmering Thing, A is for Alfie, and 10 Sleepy Dinosaurs. Both contests were hits, with many of Dill’s followers eager to win one of the six books.
Dill briefly reviewed each of the six books that were given away. She wrote that The Glimmering Thing is “perfect for young readers or even to be read aloud to small children as there are few words per page and beautiful illustrations.”
Dill was also excited about Rubicon’s BOLDPRINT Talk series. “Each BOLDPRINT Talk book is thematically linked to a student book from the BOLDPRINT series,” she wrote. “They are designed to get kids thinking and talking. This book [It’s About Science] is on a 5th grade level, and it’s sooooo cool! It reminds me of a kids’ magazine with the graphics and fact boxes and sidebars.”
Dill also noted the high quality of Les Drew’s illustrations for A is for Alfie and 10 Sleepy Dinosaurs, and mentioned that she found Banana Ninja to be an excellent book to get young boys interested in reading.
