PEARSON CANADA LAUNCHES NEW RUBICON SERIES TURTLE ISLAND VOICES
February 10, 2011
TORONTO, ON – Pearson Canada launched the new series by Rubicon Publishing, called Turtle Island Voices, to an excited crowd at Reading for the Love of It.
The response to the series has been overwhelmingly positive and many teachers stated that this series was exactly what they had been looking for.
"Come in to our stories, and share them with your children. We welcome you to our world, and we hope that you find kindred spirits in our words." said Robert Cutting, Series Editor. "The stories presented in Turtle Island Voices come from a variety of sources. Many are traditional retellings of very old stories, passed down from one generation to the next. Others are modern, original stories that give a voice to Aboriginal people of the 21st century. Still, others are of an informational nature — stories that give an insight into other aspects of who we are as we live on Turtle Island."
Turtle Island Voices is a new series for Grades 1 to 3 designed to help students develop an awareness, respect, and understanding of Aboriginal cultures. The series includes traditional stories as well as modern and informational texts that are rooted in the concepts of interconnectedness, respect for life, and the quest for a better future. Series Editors on Turtle Island Voices are David Bouchard and Robert Cutting with David Booth as Literacy Consultant.
