TORONTO - Rubicon Publishing teamed up with the Toronto Raptors today as part of the NBA club’s annual Books and Basketball celebration. More than 80 excited students came out to watch the raptors beat the Chicago Bulls at the Air Canada Centre in a thrilling overtime win this afternoon. The lucky students were invited to the Raptors game after participating and winning a literacy competition. The event was part of a continued effort by Rubicon Publishing and the Raptors to promote literacy among K-12 students.
Other than beating the Bulls, the Raptors’ main goal for the day was to inspire children to read. 24 excited students were invited onto the court moments before the tip to receive a basketball and a BOLDPRINT Graphic Novel from their favourite Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls players. The children then joined the rest of their classmates in a gondola with a prime view of the game, where they enjoyed hot dogs, pizza, t-shirts, and their copies of the brand new BOLDPRINT Graphic Novels.
The students evenly divided their attention between the vivid illustrations in their BOLDPRINT Graphic Novels and cheering on the high-flying dunks and dazzling passes that were scattered throughout the game. Books and Basketball was a clear success on and off the court.
