Infusing Inquiry-Based Learning Into the Classroom Has Never Been Easier!
Each Inquiry Collection features 10 engaging content readers.
- The ultimate in flexibility — content readers can be used as part of an inquiry unit, as part of a structured literacy program reading program, or in a subject area lesson or on their own.
- Short on time? Each book contains built-in inquiry prompts that guide students through a single inquiry lesson.
Go as deep as desired with inquiry models that have been carefully designed to meet a variety of classroom needs and comfort levels.
-
Option 1
Ease into inquiry — Inquiry Support for Individual Content Readers. Students are introduced to inquiry-based learning in a flexible, simple way:
- A clear diagram models the four-step inquiry process at the beginning of each book.
- In each book, a focus question and embedded inquiry prompts guide students through each step of the inquiry process.
- The inquiry prompts are listed at the back of each book to help students reflect on what they have learned relating to the focus question for the book and/or the inquiry question for the Collection.
-
Option 2
Go deep — Inquiry Support for an Entire Collection
- The Inquiry Collections are designed for teachers and students who want to dive into a rich and robust inquiry unit.
- Teachers introduce provocations to spark student wonder about the Inquiry Collection.
- Students read books within the Inquiry Collection that are appropriate for their reading level. The books can be used for whole-group, small-group, or independent reading.
- As a group, students examine how their thinking has changed as they discuss their questions, find out more information, and make sense of and reflect on their learning.
- The Inquiry Teaching Guide supports teachers through the inquiry process with practical support and strategies, including talking and writing opportunities for students, assessment information, MLL support, and professional learning.
Authentic Indigenous Content
- 30 Indigenous fiction and non-fiction titles written by Inuit, Métis, and First Nations authors
- 10 Indigenous titles per grade
- 2 Indigenous titles per Inquiry Collection (1 fiction, 1 non-fiction).
- All Indigenous titles reviewed by Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous content reviewers.
- Indigenous artwork by artists from the same Nation or region as the author of each book.
- An additional page of teaching support in the Inquiry Teaching Guide for each Indigenous title.
