Title: Get the Facts about Fluency

Audience: Grades 1-6

The curriculum calls for a balanced approach to math emphasizing a solid grounding in core skills alongside a deeper conceptual understanding. But how do we achieve fluency without resorting to the timed tests and rote memorization of the past? This session we will challenge the traditional view of math fluency as simply speed and skill. Mathematically fluent students notice patterns and structures of numbers and select tools with intention. We'll explore key pillars of fluency and learn practical, classroom-ready strategies to help your students become accurate and flexible math learners. You'll leave with concrete routines, games, and teaching techniques that empower your students to reason — not just recall.
