Experiencing the Joy, Beauty and Brilliance of Indigenous Peoples in Education

We will explore the many ways educators can create meaningful learning about Indigenous Peoples in their classrooms. In recognition of National Indigenous History Month this June, we’ll share timely resources to help you highlight the rich contributions and achievements of Indigenous Peoples, both past and present.

Examples of how Dufferin-Peel CDSB is using the BOLDPRINT Inquiry Indigenous Packs in primary classrooms will be shared during the session.

Speaker:
Jodie Williams currently works as the Indigenous Education Coordinator for the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board. As the Past Chair for the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Association of Ontario, Jodie travels globally facilitating workshops and developing resources to support educators in delivering high quality Indigenous Education in schools.

She is an AQ instructor and has led provincial work in the area of Indigenous Knowledge and Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. Jodie has also worked as a Program Officer at the Ontario College of Teachers in the Standards of Practice and Education Unit, where she supported provincial capacity building related to teacher education across Ontario focused on Indigenous education.

Jodie is a fierce advocate for the environment, land-based learning and Indigenous Knowledge, including the revival of Indigenous Languages.

Speakers:
Marian Small is an internationally renowned mathematics educator, author, and professional learning consultant. Dr. Small, whose career in education has spanned more than four decades, is considered one of the most influential math educators in Canada. She has authored or co-authored more than 100 math resources and travelled to mathematics classrooms around the world to provide consultation focused on improving understanding and performance in K–12 mathematics.

Michelle Skene is an innovative educational leader with over 25 years of experience in mathematics and assessment. She currently serves as a National Math Consultant with Rubicon, a Savvas Company. Michelle’s career includes roles as a school principal, instructional leader, and math coach in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. She has also worked as a professor at the University of Ottawa and contributed to various Ministry of Education projects, including the “Guide to Effective Instruction in Math.”
